We are on our second week of rain. While the days are miserable, the nights are fabulous as the low clouds are lit by all the buildings. From our window, we enjoy the mist filled evenings. It is so dreary that Batman would love it!

Tuesdays are Emmy’s favorite day of the week! She loves to go to her skating lessons (huabing ke) with her friend Samantha. She has mastered skating forward and she is learning to skate backwards. It is a rushed evening to get homework done before we leave for skating at 4:45pm. After skating, Betty and I take the girls downstairs to get a Burger King hamburger. We get home just in time to go to bed. Average Rating: 4.9 out of 5 based on 249 user reviews.

Eleri has found that reading books is quite fun. She enjoys her purple reading chair and flipping through the books. It does make it tough to read a story in order as Eleri flips the pages back and forth. Average Rating: 4.5 out of 5 based on 193 user reviews.

Emmy had her second Shanghai sleepover. Her friend, Samantha spent the night. The girls had a grand time eating dinner in front of the TV. We set up a matress in the living room – the girls stayed up late watching movies from bed.    The following day they played the entire day and Jack came over to play with Eleri. Samantha was so exhausted, she dropped at 6:30PM. For Halloween, we had a purple witch and an “almost” puppy. The puppy hat was as close as Elle was going to get to her wearing her dog outfit.  When Elle and I went to buy the costumes, she tried on a dog outfit that was “scratchy”. I purchased the other softer one, but she didn’t believe me and would not put in on. Emmy had a blast being a purple witch. Eleri thought my witch hat was a better deal. Yanlord Gardens, our complex, hosted a Halloween event. The poster was very funny. I did manage to “acquire†one after the Halloween event. It reads as follow: Date/Oct 31th 18:30-20:30 Venue Clubhouse My favorite line is that last line. We experienced our first Halloween in China living in a high rise. We met at the clubhouse, as the poster stated. Everyone was put into “groups” to visit the apartments that signed up to give out candy. This group would squeeze into the elevator in good Chinese style (too many people) to go to the designated apartment. With the security system, a guard would accompanying the group with a card key to get into the building and up the elevators. Each child was given a small piece of candy. After visiting only a few apartments in the half hour of “ask for candy” time, the girls left with mostly empty candy bags. A little different than Johnson Avenue in California and Headlands in DB. We went back to the club house to check out the fun and games. It was a bit busy with too many people, but the girls did enjoy the cotton candy. Average Rating: 5 out of 5 based on 246 user reviews.

Emmy’s class sent home their first publishing. Here are the two written by Emmy. She was very excited about her stories being “published”. Of course, my favorite is My Little Sister. Average Rating: 4.8 out of 5 based on 283 user reviews.

As part of the ongoing family tradition, Saturday morning is pancake breakfast day. While I was in the US, I picked up a jug of real maple syrup (only the Mrs. Butterworth’s all sugar stuff here) so that we could have proper pancakes.  This morning, Eleri was in her “Me do” mode and wanted to help. She did a great job mixing the batter and watching the cakes cook as well as eating.  Now our only problem is that we have not had pancakes since, as we can not find any more proper pancake mix. When we do find it, we will buy it all, as you never know when the next shipment will come in. At times, Shanghai is a hardship posting! Fall Carnival is an event sponsored by the PSO (Parent Support Organization) for the children. The children dress up in costumes. There are all kinds of games for the kids to play. The children are given 1.5 hour time slots throughout the day. The entire day is volunteered by parents. I took Eleri to play at Carnival, also. She loved the bouncy house the best. I spent my birthday in Hong Kong on the way back from our Malaysian holiday. I had a great day with my daughters, as Brenda was off shopping at Stanley Market. While we live in the land of bicycles, we have not been able to find bikes with “coaster” brakes in China. They all have hand brakes, which for our kids, are a non-stopper! So the girls and I went to the “Friendly Bike Shop” in Hong Kong to get the girls bikes on MY birthday. They were packed as luggage back to Shanghai – part of our 8 bags! We still do not travel light. We put off a family celebration for a week so we could make the family favorite chocolate cake. This time, we were fortunate to find the right ingredients. And, yes, we did clear the shelves of all two cans of cocoa at the store to horde for future baking. Birthday wishes! Average Rating: 4.6 out of 5 based on 293 user reviews.
