All summer long, Emersyn would sing, “we’re getting a dog, we’re getting a dog”. She is beyond excited and still can’t believe we are getting a dog. We had always said, “when we move back, we will get a puppy”. The girls are at the right age, just the wrong place. For more details on the search of a dog, see 7-11 Birthday Surprise
Since my search was tied to the age of the dog, I wasn’t able to “pick” the breeder. Even if I had the option, I wouldn’t know what to look for in a breeder as this is the first time our dog didn’t come from “the pound”. When I found Susan at Marquis Diamond Standards, luck was on my side. I couldn’t have found a better breeder if I tried. Susan gives these puppies so much care and love. My concerns of getting a healthy dog were no longer a worry. Susan gives her puppies a good start on life. She also wants to find the right home for her puppies. She does a personality test on all the puppies to help determine which puppy would best meet each family’s needs. She does a wing test for hunting. Susan sent us home with toys, food, bed, brush, shampoo, leash/collar and all things needed for a new puppy along with all kinds of information!!
After we picked out our puppy, number 834 (chip number), we still had to wait another week to get her because of the China paperwork. The travel documents had to be stamp within 10 days upon arrival. Susan took our puppy to the Reno vet for the health certificate and met us in Sacramento for the official stamp. The girls were so excited on the drive to Sacramento. On the drive, the girls determine the name for our puppy would be Roxi. We had other names, but Roxi was their favorite.
When we saw Susan and Roxi, Roxi had grown in the one week since we saw her last! We played with Roxi on the lawn while Susan filed the paperwork to get the proper certificate and stamp. It was helpful that she has done this process in the past and knew what needed to be done.
Emersyn has been very responsible with Roxi. Roxi is sleeping with the girls and Emersyn is on night duty. Eleri just sleeps through it all. Here is Emersyn taking a nap – she didn’t realize how tired she would be getting up in the night.
When we arrived at Roxi’s “temporary home”, she loved the backyard. She also loved the fact the back door was left open. With the beautiful weather in California, the fresh breeze in the house is refreshing. If we couldn’t find her, she would be out lying on the grass. She is going to miss this backyard when she moves to Shanghai.

They say owners and dogs look like. Well, for us it is Aunt and dog that look alike!
Got to love that face!
