Hangzhou (æå·ž) is a is a major city located in the Yangtze River Delta region of of Zhejiang (浙江) province. Hangzhou is renowned for its historic relics and natural beauty. It is often known as one of the most beautiful cities in China. One of Hangzhou’s most popular sights is West Lake. The lake itself covers an area of 6 km2/2.3 square mile (600 hectares).
We arrived to major traffic in Hangzhou. Mr. Nie had to drive in circles trying to get us to our hotel down by the West Lake. It was a busy weekend because of the Holiday. For the past four years, we have avoided travel in China during a Chinese Holiday. This was reinforcing the reason we did this! We got checked into our hotel, which was very nice (and too expensive). We crossed the street to see the lake with all the people.
We took a boat ride to the island.
Once on the island, we followed the paths around the park. The park had pretty flowers with trees and large lili pads in the water.
I am sure the view would have been more enjoyable with a few less people!
We did buy the girls some bubble guns which they enjoyed while we finished our tour of the island.
On the boat ride home, we ran for a back seat outside to enjoy the view.
We decided we needed a break from the crowds. We took the girls to the pool at the hotel for a little down time.
After the pool fun, we went to dinner near the hotel since it was raining. We enjoyed our time here, but I can’t say we will be back! I can’t say I thought it was one of the most beautiful cities in China – maybe the people blocked the view!
