With Eleri having a birthday in August, she likes to have her party early to be able to celebrate with her classmates she has spent the school year with. We planned a sand-pit party so the kids could run, play and enjoy the outdoors.

We began the morning making fairy bread, frosting and decorating two cakes and preparing all the party food. Eleri wanted to decorate her own cake so it was covered in sprinkles. She helped will all the fairy bread as sprinkling bread is fun. The counter and the floor were covered with sprinkles, also. Everything was ready just in time!!

We had been watching the weather to ensure we had a good day, as spring can be unsettled in Shanghai. All was looking good for the day, not a drop of rain in the forecast…until 15 minutes before the party.

A mad scramble ensued trying to find a new dry venue to have the party. But alas, none was found…good fortune would prevail and the rain stopped at 1:05pm. Party on!

All the kids were given a bucket and shovel set to play in the sand. The kids had a blast in the wet sand and added to the wetness by bring bucket after bucket of water into the sand pit. They made the slide a “water slideâ€.

After a thorough wash up, it was time for cake. Everyone sang “happy birthday†to Eleri and she was smiles ear to ear!
