The Melbourne Cup is a big event in Shanghai. A luncheon with drinks, prizes and the race is an annual event. After four years, I finally made it to the Melbourne Cup. Jim helped to “make” a hat the night before since it is all about the hat! We put a scarf and some peacock feathers into a sun hat.

The race is on a big screen. Upon arriving, you purchase “bets”. Not knowing any of the horses, I place “bets” on the horses by name. If your horse wins, you get to pick a prize from a box.
